What is the Linux File structure (directory paths

 

  • /boot # Contains kernel images. And if grub is bootloader it is contained here as well.
  • /etc # Contains configuration files.
  • /bin # Contains system binaries.
  • /sbin # Contains secure system binaries
  • /lib # Contains system libary files
  • /home # user directories
  • /opt # generally used for optional packages
  • /usr # Contains user installed packages.
    • /usr/bin # Contains user installed executables.
    • /usr/lib # Contains user installed libraries.
  • /var # Contains log files, and generally runtime files ( lock, spool etc… )
  • /dev # Virtual filesystem that contains devices
  • /proc # Virtual filesystems that holds kernel parameters, and process infomation.
