  • References the process that runs at each runlevel

/etc/init.d/rc  or /etc/rc.d/rc

  • Scripts are run in numeric order

Easier to manage with chkconfig

  • Manage all runlevels

 
superuser mode
su –
chkconfig  –list

view the process run
all the different run levels that are here yuo can see 0 through 6 and you can see the names at the different processes than script that those are associated and then you can see at what run levels do different processes operate for instance

chkconfig  --list
chkconfig  –list network

chkconfig  --list network

to add the network to the list

chkconfig  –add network

 

runlevel

  • first number is previous reunlevel
  • second number is current runlevel

 

init

change runlevels

telinit q

apply changes made to /etc/inittab
